This review is from: Stormbreaker (Alex Rider Adventure) (Paperback)

Fourteen-year-old Alex Rider enjoys a life that many would envy – living in London with his uncle, attending a top-notch private school and spending holidays travelling around the world. This all comes to an end when his uncle, the globe-trotting banker Ian Rider, dies in a car accident.

As the circumstances of his uncle’s crash are made known to him, Alex is convinced that it could not have been the true cause of his uncle’s death.

Alex investigates his suspicions, forcing his uncle’s true employers – MI 6 – to reveal themselves. Despite his age and the great danger involved, Alex is forced to finish the mission his uncle died trying to fulfill.

Now he must try to solve the clues his uncle left behind and survive long enough to save England!

Stormbreaker is Anthony Horowitz’s first novel for young adults. Well-received, it spawned a big-screen movie, which Horowitz wrote the screenplay for, as well as the extremely popular series of best-selling Alex Rider adventures.

The themes of self-reliance, self-sacrifice, perseverance and patriotism are woven throughout Stormbreaker. There is also a heavy emphasis on the uncompromising value of truth.

This book is at a good reading level for 6th-8th graders. Because Stormbreaker is relies on action and not character development to move its plot forward, I would especially recommend it for boys who are easily bored by reading.
